The 5th amendment to the Packaging Ordinance offers "Erstinverkehrbringer"* of sales packaging that ends up at locations similar to private households a special way of organizing the take-back of their packaging. They are permitted to commission a third party, which operates a branch solution, to take back such materials on their behalf.
Before offering such a branch solution, such third parties must first be issued with a certificate by an official expert certifying that they fulfil all organisational and technical regulations. Following this, the branch solution must then be registered at the Ministry of the Environment of the German state concerned. EKO-PUNKT® has fulfilled these conditions. This fact was determined and certified by an independent institute that has many years' experience of the sales packaging market and sets very high standards.
Legal recycling rates must be fulfilled for sales packaging that is taken back as part of a branch solution. If this cannot be proven, then the suspension no longer applies and the packaging amounts concerned have to be licensed again later at a dual system. We recommend, therefore, that you look carefully at the branch solution you are considering choosing. Unfortunately, bad branch solutions are expensive – not immediately but after the event! You should, in particular, check to see to what extent sales packaging are able to participate in branch solutions. This can be determined individually if the sales channels and locations producing the waste packaging can be clearly recognized. If it is not clear then a scientific study held by EKO-PUNKT® can be used.
