Service packaging is sales packaging from retailers, restaurants or other service providers that makes it possible for goods to be handed over to final consumers. Put in simple terms, service packaging is sales packaging that is filled with a product immediately before it is handed over to the consumer. Examples are: collapsible boxes or dishes for holding food, paper cups for selling drinks, carrier bags or other kinds of bags. Unlike "standard" sales packaging, service packaging can be "pre-licensed" by manufacturers of packaging so that the "Erstinverkehrbringer"* can purchase packaging material from manufacturers of packaging that has already been licensed.
