Licensing packaging - important and sustainable
The licensing of packaging - officially referred to as participation in a dual system - concerns everyone who brings packaged goods into circulation and to the end consumer. In other words, industry and trade in a wide variety of forms. Snack bars and retail companies must license their service packaging in the same way as online retailers must license their shipping packaging and product manufacturers must license their sales packaging. The license fee paid is used by the dual systems to ensure that used packaging is collected, sorted and recycled nationwide. The intention behind this is to keep the raw materials used in the packaging in circulation for as long as possible and thus ensure that these valuable materials are preserved. The aim is also to reduce the amount of poorly recyclable packaging in circulation. The obligation to participate in packaging licensing is therefore a good thing and serves to protect the climate and conserve resources.

EKO-PUNKT Dual System – How It Works
Transport Packaging – Every Rule Has Its Exceptions
Currently, transport packaging that is used exclusively for the transportation of goods within the distribution chain and does not reach the end consumer is not subject to licensing requirements in Germany.
However, since July 1, 2022, distributors of transport packaging must also register with the Central Packaging Register (ZSVR). In addition, manufacturers and distributors along the supply chain are obligated to take back and recycle the transport packaging they place on the market.

Register with the ZSVR first, then license with EKO-PUNKT
The first step towards packaging licensing is registration with the Central Packaging Register (ZSVR).
The ZSVR acts as the main supervisory authority for participation in the Dual System. You will also be required to report the volume of your licensed packaging there later on.

If certain material volume thresholds are exceeded, a Declaration of Completeness must be submitted.
